Free Preventive Services with Medicare – Keeping Seniors Healthy

The Affordable Care Act of 2010 has expanded the “preventive services” of Medicare. The “Welcome to Medicare Physical Exam,” once hailed as a great advancement in preventive care is now free for new senior members. Gone is the 20% co-pay which helped prevent 90% of seniors from taking advantage of the comprehensive exam.

In addition to this great news, free annual exams will also be conducted for each Medicare Plan B member who has been a member for at least 12 months. This great benefit is believed to be a transformational new approach to Medicare in early prevention of preventable diseases.

Part B deductibles and copayment for several screenings and counceling programs will also be eliminated if certain member criteria are met. This includes prostate & colon cancer screenings, mammograms & cervical cancer treatments, HIV tests, immunizations, bone measurements, plus many more screenings. Please check with your provider to see what benefits you can take advantage of as of 2011.
